VOSLOORUS, October 10, 2017 – AfroCentric Group has donated a new vehicle to Eluthandweni Maternity Clinic to empower it, improve its resources, and ensure easier access to quality healthcare for the community of Vosloorus and the surrounding areas.

The donation forms part of the JSE listed company’s enterprise development programme in which the clinic is one of the beneficiaries.

“The Group is committed to supporting development issues, especially in healthcare. It is for this reason that AfroCentric is making this contribution to the community,” said Dr Nkateko Munisi, AfroCentric Group board member and chairperson of the Social ethics committee.

“We are grateful to AfroCentric for their support over the last six years. We are one of the top maternity clinics serving local communities in the country and this would not have been possible without AfroCentric”, said Sister Nonina Dube, Managing Director of the clinic,

“This donation is critical in ensuring that we can transport patients who have no means to travel and it will ensure that they can adhere to the clinical protocols”, she said.

Eluthandweni has a proven track record of service and has been in existence for over twenty years. In addition to Eluthandweni, the AfroCentric Group supports a variety of initiatives in the healthcare sector including the Public Health Enhancement Forum (which works in collaboration with other healthcare players to assist government with infrastructure and skills development for national health insurance), the Charlotte Maxeke hospital school and sponsorship of medical students at the University of Pretoria and the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University.

Since 2011, AfroCentric has made a number interventions from training to providing equipment such as computers, baby warmers and an ambulance to the clinic. In the 2016/17 financial year, the Group contributed in excess of R760 000 to Eluthandweni which contributed to new equipment for the building of the clinic as well as a new patient vehicle and a shelter for the vehicles.
